Mother Tongue Languages MT Fortnight 2026
From 24th March to 2nd April, Secondary 1 to 3 students participated in a range of engaging cultural activities during Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight.
Designed and conducted in-house by our Chinese and Malay Language teachers,
the programmes allowed students to appreciate their Mother Tongue languages
and cultural heritage through hands-on learning.
Discovering Culture Through Art: Secondary 1 students
explored Chinese Face Mask Painting and Malay Batik Painting. Through
these activities, students exercised creativity and critical thinking as
they made thoughtful choices about colours, symbols and designs.
Bringing Traditional Stories to Life: Secondary 2 students experienced traditional shadow puppetry through 皮影戏 and Wayang Kulit. Students worked collaboratively to coordinate puppet movements, narration and performances. In doing so, they strengthened their communication, teamwork and adaptive-thinking skills.
Connecting Mother Tongue with Digital Media: Secondary 3 students applied their language skills creatively through Themed Vlogging. Through the process of planning, filming and reviewing their videos, students developed collaboration, communication, creativity and digital literacy.
Through these activities, students developed important Emerging 21st Century Competencies, including creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and digital literacy. The programmes provided a meaningful and memorable way for students to experience, create and share the Mother Tongue language and culture.
