Learning Outcomes
The Mother Tongue Languages curriculum seeks to nurture proficient language users who can communicate confidently and effectively in real-world contexts, while deepening their appreciation of cultures and values through meaningful Mother Tongue Languages learning experiences.

Our lessons are designed to help students think critically and creatively. With the use of ICT tools, teachers create engaging and authentic learning experiences that encourage students to take charge of their own learning and work together with their peers.
We support these endeavours through a repertoire of interactive and innovative teaching strategies, which are customised to suit our students’ learning needs.
Experiential Learning is also integrated to allow students to make connections with the real-world.

Chinese New Year Celebrations 2026
On 16 February 2026, Peicai Secondary School celebrated Chinese New Year with a vibrant morning of level-differentiated activities that brought festive cheer across the campus.

Secondary 2 students showcased their digital skills by creating meaningful and beautifully designed Chinese New Year e-cards, blending tradition with technology.

Meanwhile, Secondary 3 to 5 students took part in lantern-making, carefully crafting colourful lanterns that symbolise reunion, hope, and new beginnings. Students participated enthusiastically in all the activities, filling the classrooms with energy, laughter, and the joyful spirit of the season.
After the morning sessions, the entire school proceeded to the hall for the Chinese New Year celebration concert. The atmosphere was lively and festive as students and staff gathered as one community. The programme featured a series of engaging performances and celebratory segments that highlighted the rich cultural traditions of the festival. The celebration not only showcased students’ talents but also strengthened school spirit and unity as everyone welcomed the new year together.

Through these meaningful experiences, our students deepened their appreciation of cultural traditions while embracing togetherness and joy. We wish all members of our school community a prosperous and successful year ahead.

Achievements 2026
From 25–27 March 2026, Peicaians participated in the 5th Bilingual Youth Model United Nations (BYMUN) organised by Nanyang Girls’ High School. During the three-day conference, they engaged in dynamic and thought-provoking discussions on global issues using both English and Chinese.

At the conference, our students took on roles across different councils, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Plus Three (ASEAN+3), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and United Nations General Assembly Third Committee (SOCHUM, C3). In addition, the delegates had the opportunity to learn from professionals in their respective fields through two bilingual keynote lectures, gaining valuable perspectives that deepened their understanding of contemporary issues.

In addition, 3 Peicaians took on the role of Press Corps members, observing debates, conducting interviews, and producing news reports. This provided them with valuable opportunities to analyse discussions critically and present balanced, well-structured coverage of the proceedings.
Prior to the conference, editors from Singapore Press Holdings conducted a workshop for our press delegates. Their expert guidance enriched the students’ understanding of journalistic practices and elevated the Press Corps experience, marking a meaningful step forward in enhancing the depth and authenticity of student-led media work at BYMUN.

These experiences helped students grow in confidence as speakers, sharpen their critical thinking, and broaden their understanding of global affairs, while also developing collaboration, adaptability, and communication skills.

Overall, our students demonstrated what it means to think critically, speak with purpose, and lead with empathy. Through their active participation, they truly embodied the spirit of this year’s BYMUN theme, “Moving Forward, Our Voices As One” 「心系寰宇,众声与共」, making the experience both meaningful and impactful.
Chinese New Year Celebrations 2025
We celebrated the Chinese New Year on 28 January with a vibrant and festive atmosphere at school. Peicaians had the opportunity to engage in various fringe activities in the classroom, such as Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese New Year Digital Card Making Competition, where they could experience the beauty of this traditional art form.
Later, the whole school came together to enjoy a series of performances and programs in the school hall, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese New Year. It was a day filled with joy, creativity, and community spirit as we embraced the traditions and celebrations of this special occasion.

Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight cultural activities
From 24 March to 4 April 2025, the school buzzed with colour, creativity, and cultural pride during Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight. This annual event aimed to spark joy in learning the Mother Tongue through immersive, hands-on experiences that celebrated the richness of cultural traditions. Secondary 1 to 3 students took part in various workshops conducted during their Mother Tongue Languages lesson.

Mid-Autumn Festival 2025
The Mid-Autumn Festival (MAF) celebration aimed to strengthen the connection and collaboration between the school staff and the Parent Support Group (PSG), fostering closer home-school relations.
This year, the Mother Tongue Languages Department took the lead in decorating the school compound, including the design and setup of the Moon Appreciation Walk. The team also prepared a variety of engaging game booths that aligned with the festival’s theme. These activities not only reflected the festive spirit of MAF but also encouraged active participation and created a lively, joyful atmosphere for everyone.

National Schools Translation Competition 2025
Our students took part in the National Schools Translation Competition 2025. The National Schools Translation Competition aims to promote bilingualism and cultivate students’ interest in translation between English and their Mother Tongue Languages. Yang Rui (4C3) clinched an individual merit award.

National Secondary Schools Creative Writing Competition 2025
Our students participated in the National Secondary Schools Creative Writing Competition with Photography 2025 (新蕾爱拍客), organized by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK). The competition attracted strong participation from secondary schools across the nation. We are pleased to announce that Wu Youran (3CE) has achieved the Second Place in this prestigious competition. Her accomplishment affirms her strong command of the Chinese language, photography skills, and creative ability to convey complex ideas through the integration of words and images.

National Chinese Reading Contest 2025
Kew Kai Qi Venice (1HY), Chiang Shutong (1CN) and Wu Youran (3CE) (from left to right) participated in the inaugural National Chinese Reading Contest organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) on 23 August 2025.
In the preliminary round in July, they were required to read six Chinese books and complete an online quiz regarding them. From a pool of over 2,500 contestants, these students achieved outstanding results by placing in the top 30, thereby qualifying for the finals.

Hari Raya Celebration 2026
The Hari Raya concert, held on 25th March 2026 during the school assembly period, was a vibrant and meaningful celebration organised by the Malay Unit. The event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of Ramadan and Hari Raya while showcasing elements of Malay culture through engaging performances.

The programme began with a special sharing by invited performers from Wira, who provided insights into the significance of Ramadan and the celebration of Hari Raya. To actively involve the audience, the speaker engaged students with a series of questions, creating an interactive and lively atmosphere. This was followed by an exciting silat performance by the Wira team. Their swift and precise movements captivated the audience, and many students were thrilled, as it was their first time witnessing a live silat demonstration.

Following this, the school’s very own Malay dance group took to the stage with a graceful Malay dance performance led by Amberlynn (2EE). Their performance highlighted the elegance and beauty of traditional Malay dance, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The concert continued with a delightful medley of Raya songs performed by Nurul Amanda (3PN) and Ms Dzafiirah. Their performance was complemented by a lively fashion show featuring our Peicaians, who showcased traditional Hari Raya attire with confidence and flair.

The event concluded on a high note, bringing together performers and audience members in a joyful celebration. Overall, the Hari Raya concert fostered greater appreciation of Malay culture and traditions while creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.
Achievements 2026
Khalif Arka Waluya (2RE) and Nurul Amanda Binte Nashron (3PN) were officially appointed as Rakan Bahasa ambassadors on 6 April at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. The ceremony was graced by Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Social & Family Development, in recognition of the students’ exemplary passion and dedication.
The Rakan Bahasa programme recognises students who lead by example in promoting the Malay language and culture. As ambassadors, Khalif and Nurul serve as role models, inspiring their peers to embrace and appreciate the Malay language in daily life while honing their confidence and communication skills.
From April to September, the ambassadors will participate in engaging activities designed to spark interest in the language. Key highlights include Kad Kembara and the TeeVers Competition, which runs from 20 April to 8 May and showcases students’ talents in audio drama. They also attended a training session with Opera Academy, focusing on script interpretation, voice projection, and intonation through the art of bangsawan.
Congratulations to Khalif and Nurul! As our 2026 Rakan Bahasa ambassadors, we look forward to seeing them inspire their peers and champion the beauty and vibrancy of the Malay language and culture throughout the year.

Hari Raya Celebration 2025
On 16 April 2025, the Peicai school hall came alive with vibrant energy as students gathered for a memorable Hari Raya Concert, organised by the Malay Language Unit. This year’s celebration was extra special, with cultural arts group Wira Budaya invited to share insights on how Hari Raya is celebrated across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore.
Next, our students put up various performances such as showcasing of Silat moves, Malay dance and singing of the song ‘Hari Raya’. They took the opportunity to share the Malay culture and the spirit of Hari Raya with the school.
The concert culminated in a delightful finale, where Malay teachers from various departments joined students on stage, wrapping up the celebration with unity and cheer. It was a truly enriching day—one filled with culture, connection, and celebration for both staff and students.
