Student Work Attachment Programme (SWAP) Mid-Year 2026

The Student Work Attachment Programme (SWAP) provides secondary 3 students with authentic workplace experiences beyond the classroom, enabling them to gain valuable insights into various industries while developing essential workplace skills. Through meaningful partnerships with industry partners, SWAP serves as a platform for students to explore career pathways, deepen their understanding of different professions, and connect classroom learning with real-world applications.

This year, our students had the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of work attachments, each offering unique learning experiences and industry exposure.

The Myers Briggs Company: Understanding Self and Others
Students embarked on a journey of self-discovery through workshops on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). They gained a deeper understanding of their personality types, strengths, communication styles, and working preferences. Beyond personal development, students also had the opportunity to apply their creativity by assisting in the design and development of personality poster, learning how psychological frameworks can be translated into engaging educational resources.

AI Noodle Factory: Exploring Education and Artificial Intelligence
At AI Noodle Factory, students were introduced to the dynamic intersection of education and artificial intelligence. They explored how AI is transforming teaching and learning using AI learning tools and applications. A highlight of the experience was the opportunity for students to try out the AI Noodle Factory platform itself, gaining first-hand experience in how AI-powered systems function in an educational context.

Sanwah Construction: Insights into Project Management
Students at Sanwah Construction gained first-hand exposure to the construction industry and the critical role of project management. Through interactions with professionals, they learned about project planning, coordination, resource management, and the collaborative efforts required to bring large-scale projects to completion. The experience highlighted the importance of teamwork, communication, and meticulous planning in the built environment sector.

Rainbow Aquarium: From Terrariums to the Fish Trade
At Rainbow Aquarium, students explored both the creative and commercial aspects of the aquatic industry. They participated in hands-on terrarium-making workshops, learning about plant care, design principles, and ecosystem sustainability. In addition, students gained valuable insights into the ornamental fish trade, including fish breeding, care, distribution, and business operations within the industry.

Unlisted Collection: Behind the Scenes of Food and Beverage Operations
Students attached to the Unlisted Collection (Brasserie Astoria) experienced the fast-paced environment of the food and beverage industry. They learned about day-to-day restaurant operations, customer service, order-taking processes, and the coordination required to deliver quality dining experiences. Through interactions with various departments, students developed a greater appreciation for teamwork and operational excellence that underpin successful F&B establishments.

The success of SWAP would not have been possible without the strong support of our industry partners. These collaborations provide students with invaluable opportunities to experience authentic workplaces, develop professional skills, and gain a clearer understanding of future career possibilities. As we continue to strengthen partnerships with organisations across diverse sectors, we remain committed to providing meaningful experiential learning opportunities that empower our students to become future-ready, adaptable, and confident learners.

Year-End SWAP for Secondary 3 students

Every twice a year, in May and October, our Secondary 3 students exchange their school uniforms for corporate attire and immerse themselves in authentic workplace environments through the Student Work Attachment Programme (SWAP). The programme enables students to explore viable education and career options through the provision of accurate and comprehensive information, while nurturing self-awareness, self-directedness, and essential life skills for continual learning and training.

Through SWAP, students gain meaningful industry exposure that helps them develop future-ready skills, inculcate an appreciation for the value of all occupations, and understand how different roles contribute to the smooth functioning of society. The programme also equips students with the skills and means to positively engage their parents and other career influencers, fostering meaningful dialogue about their learning and aspirations.

This October and November, we are grateful to The Myers Briggs Company, Sanwah Construction, Yishun Health, and the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) Blood Bank for welcoming our students into their organisations. Their guidance has provided invaluable opportunities for Peicaians to observe professional practices, understand workplace expectations, and build confidence in navigating new environments.

We extend special thanks to Mr Robbins from the Myers Briggs Company, one of Singapore’s leading HR consultancies, for his warm hospitality, mentorship, and professional guidance. His engagement has inspired students to develop both practical skills and a mindset of adaptability, resilience, and purpose.

Through SWAP, Peicaians are learning beyond the classroom, exploring knowledge, honing skills, shaping mindsets, and engaging their communities, preparing themselves for tomorrow, today.

Mid-Year SWAP for Secondary 3 students

SWAP@Peicai: A Glimpse into the Working World

From 3 to 5 June 2025, selected Secondary 3 students took part in our school’s distinctive programme, SWAP@Peicai. This initiative provided students with a unique opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience a short job attachment with various external organisations.

Students were attached to reputable organisations such as Gain City, the National Library Board (NLB), Yishun Health, Blood Bank@Punggol and A*STAR. Through these placements, they observed the day-to-day operations across different industries — from retail and public service to healthcare and scientific research. These experiences gave them a deeper understanding of the working world and helped them appreciate the skills and values needed in different professional environments.

SWAP@Peicai continues to be a meaningful and eye-opening experience, encouraging students to explore potential career interests and reflect on their aspirations for the future.

Work Attachment Opportunities@Peicai

In Peicai Secondary School (PCSS), we continue to place a premium on the holistic development of our students where both academic excellence and character development are pillars of a holistic education. When students have an interest and find enjoyment in what they do, they will excel and be motivated to pursue their interests well beyond school.

The holistic educational experience as well as opportunities we aim to provide in PCSS whilst catering to students’ strengths, passion and interests, strive to nurture our students to be not just equipped with knowledge and skills but also values and attitudes to navigate the future.

To better prepare our students with the right skillsets to navigate the future, the school seek to partner our industries to provide authentic work attachments for our students.

Through the work attachments, we endeavour for our students to pick-up real-world skills. Besides that, students who had the opportunity to be attached to the companies based on their choice and aspirations would potentially be motivated to strive hard for their academics in order to reach their goals. This would open up the conversation for them to start to build their portfolio in applying for JC DSA and Polytechnics PFP.

Students enjoyed the novel experience of visiting the court with Mr Josiah and Mr Russell, and sitting in the consultations. Most of the things they did during the week-long attachment were new things that they enjoyed exploring. They found Mr Josephus Tan’s sharing to be very authentic and inspiring. They also appreciated the patience shown to them by their mentors.

Students found the visit to PWC’s CBD office to be an eye-opening experience that provided them with a deeper insight into what an accounting job entails (e.g., not just accounting but also assurance, risk assessment and management, etc.). Some developed a higher interest in accounting after the visit. They appreciated the interactive and engaging format of the visit, which gave them the opportunity to pose questions and the patience shown by the speaker in providing clear explanations to their questions. They are thankful for the warm hospitality shown.

Students found the brainstorming segment to be challenging yet engaging as they were able to challenge themselves to come up with creative solutions. They found their newly-gained creative problem-solving skills to be useful and applicable in their lives. They are also appreciative of the fact that the various teams at Tribal DBB took time out of their busy schedule to accommodate our students’ visit to their office.
