National Day 2026: Celebrating Our Singapore Story

Peicaians came together to celebrate Singapore’s 61st National Day in a morning filled with pride, energy and togetherness.

The celebrations began with our National Day Parade, with students from NCC, NPCC and Girl Guides taking centre stage in the march-past. The parade provided a meaningful reminder of the values and spirit that have shaped Singapore’s journey as a nation.

We were privileged to have Dr Edmond Tan, Chairperson of our School Advisory Committee, join us as our Guest-of-Honour. We were also delighted to welcome seniors from Lions Befrienders and members of our Parent Support Group, who joined our students and staff in the celebrations. Their presence added warmth and meaning to the occasion, bringing together different generations of the Peicai community as we celebrated Singapore together.

The concert segment brought the school to life with an exciting line-up of performances. Our Aeromodelling students wowed the audience with a spectacular flag fly-past, Drama brought Singapore’s history to life through a lively and engaging performance, while Band and Modern Dance showcased the talents and creativity of our Peicaians.

The Singapore Quiz, “How Well Do You Know Singapore’s History? Let’s Play the Singapore Quiz, Peicai Style!”, added an element of fun and friendly competition. Five staff members teamed up with students to test their knowledge of Singapore’s history and heritage, resulting in plenty of laughter, excitement and surprises along the way.

The morning ended on a high note as the entire school came together for community singing. With voices raised in unison, Peicaians celebrated not only Singapore’s journey but also the bonds that connect us as a school community.

This year’s National Day celebration was a reminder that Singapore’s story is one that we all have a part to play in. As we look ahead, let us continue to move forward with courage, resilience and a strong sense of togetherness.

Student Council Presidential Election

The 18th Student Council Presidential Election was successfully conducted during the school assembly on 1^st April 2026. The event drew an impressive turnout of students, teachers, and staff members in the multi-purpose hall, marking a significant milestone in student democratic participation. The main aim of the rally was to allow the five presidential candidates to share their manifestos and electoral symbols as seen in Fig. 1. The event commenced with video introductions from all five presidential candidates, each presenting their unique vision and leadership approach to the assembled school community.

The programme continued with a comprehensive Question-and-Answer session featuring carefully curated questions submitted through the Peicai Student Leaders Instagram page, as seen in Fig. 2. This digital engagement platform was introduced last year, demonstrating an innovative approach to ensure widespread participation from the student body.

The rally reached its crescendo with an engaging live Question-and-Answer segment, where candidates faced direct questions from the audience. This interactive portion provided an invaluable opportunity for students and teachers to engage directly with the candidates in Fig. 3 and 4.

The candidates were put to the test during this live Q&A session, demonstrating their capacity to articulate their thoughts clearly when receiving spontaneous queries. They confidently explored their visions, aspirations, and proposed initiatives for enhancing the school environment, as seen in Fig. 5.

A groundbreaking element of this year's election was the introduction of an authentic physical voting process, representing a first for the school. Students participated in a genuine democratic exercise by marking their preferred candidate on official voting slips and depositing them into secure ballot boxes prepared by the current Student Councillors, as seen in Fig. 6 and 7. This innovative approach created considerable excitement among the student body, as it closely mirrored the procedures of actual government elections.

The implementation of this authentic election process served multiple educational objectives beyond candidate selection. Students gained firsthand experience in democratic participation, reinforcing fundamental civic values including Civic Duty, Responsible Decision-Making, and Active Ownership as engaged members of the electoral process. This experiential learning opportunity provided students with practical understanding of democratic principles and their role as responsible citizens.

The entire event exemplified student leadership excellence, from the meticulous planning and execution by the current Student Council to the enthusiastic participation of the school community. The seamless integration of traditional democratic processes with modern digital engagement created a comprehensive and meaningful electoral experience at Peicai Secondary School.

Peicai Sports Day 2026

The glowing morning sun rose on Bishan Stadium, home of Singapore Premier League Champions, the Lion City Sailors, the venue where records would be challenged, and voices of the supporters heard in this lively and energetic sports cauldron.

As the near 5000-seater stadium emits an atmosphere of excitement and hope, classes turned up in various colours and paraphernalia to ensure that their own classmates competing hear their cheers, and strive to perform beyond the ordinary.

On top of it all, Peicai Sports Day fosters a healthy competitive sporting culture, that serves to strengthen class and school spirit. With HOD PE CCA Mr Alvin Yeo covering commentary alongside 5B1’s Isaac Hoon for the second year in the running, the event commenced to much aplomb.

This year is the year of the dark horses, and the younger stallions prevailed. In the Lower Secondary category, Calista Tan from 1CE, who is currently in the SP-CCA Athletics team, completed a double, defeating close rival Ho Jia Xin from 2CN in a tight contest.

In the Upper Secondary category, 3AY’s very own Ashley Su has cemented her position as the sprint queen when she took gold in both the 100m and 200m events, breaking both records. On top of that, Ashley shaved 4 seconds off the previous 200m sprint record, coming in at 28.22 Secs.

At the end of the event, our esteemed guest of honour, Asian Sprint Queen Ms Shanti Veronica Pereira, who interacted with all student athletes and parents as well, shared a few words of inspiration to encourage Peicaians to aspire to break their barriers, overcome challenges and dream bigger, before giving out many of the prizes to all award winners.

Our Principal Mr Michael then capped off the wonderful event by applauding the efforts of the various classes in bringing up class spirit by cheering on their classmates with poms-poms, support placards and even banner flags of their classes.

Peicai Girl Guides Commemorate World Thinking Day 100

The Peicai Girl Guides proudly commemorated the 100th anniversary of World Thinking Day in February, a significant occasion celebrated by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world. This special day recognises the values of friendship, leadership, and global sisterhood that unite Guides across different countries and cultures.

To mark this milestone, our Guides gathered for a parade and observance ceremony. The ceremony included the recitation of the Guide Promise and Law, reminding the Guides of the values and responsibilities that Guides strive to uphold in their daily lives.

During the observance ceremony, the Guides also reflected on the history and significance of World Thinking Day and how the movement has empowered generations of girls to develop confidence, leadership, and a strong sense of service to the community. It was a meaningful moment for the Guides to appreciate that they are part of a global network of millions of girls and women who share the same commitment to making a positive difference in the world.

The celebration served as a reminder of the strong bonds of friendship and unity within the Guiding community. As Peicai Girl Guides celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day, they remain committed to living out the Guide Promise and continuing the spirit of service, leadership, and friendship for many years to come.

Athletes Oath Taking Ceremony 2026

During assembly, Mr Alvin Yeo, HOD of Physical Education and CCA, formally announced the start of the National School Games, signalling the beginning of an exciting and challenging sporting season for our student-athletes. The announcement set an uplifting tone, reminding students that the National School Games are not just about competition, but about growth, discipline, and representing the school with honour.

A key highlight of the assembly was the Athletes’ Oath-taking ceremony. Five student representatives from different sports proudly took the oath on behalf of the school, affirming their commitment to fair play, integrity, respect, and perseverance. Ling Zhi Feng Benson (Volleyball), Loh Jun Yang Anh Tristan (Basketball), Naw Kaira Marcus (Floorball), Lim Ziliang Jasper (Badminton) and Sulaksha Pun (Softball) stood confidently before their peers, symbolising unity and leadership across all sports CCAs.

The moment served as a powerful reminder that sporting excellence goes hand in hand with strong character. As our athlete step onto the courts and fields, we wish them courage, resilience, and sportsmanship as they proudly represent Peicai Secondary School in the National School Games.

Singapore Science & Engineering Festival (SSEF) 2026

We are incredibly proud of our students Tan Yi Zhong (3PN) and Lukas Ng Hanlong (3EE), who have been selected to present their innovative research project at the Singapore Science & Engineering Festival (SSEF).

Following this significant achievement, Lukas and Yi Zhong also took to the stage during a recent school assembly to share their learning journey with the Peicai community. They spoke about their research process, challenges encountered, and the inspiration behind their project, giving their peers a valuable glimpse into authentic scientific inquiry.

Their presentation reflected strong scientific curiosity, creativity, and confidence, as well as the courage to explore new ideas and communicate them clearly to a wider audience. It was truly heartening to see our students exemplify the spirit of inquiry, collaboration, and perseverance that lies at the heart of STEM learning.

Sports Day, OSEP & AI Assembly Talk

During the assembly on 25 February 2026, students were presented with a series of informative and forward-looking talks that highlighted both upcoming school events and future-ready learning opportunities.

The assembly began with a Sports Briefing by Mr Alvin, HOD of PE & CCA, who shared key details about the upcoming Sports Day. He outlined the programme and expectations, building anticipation among students. He also introduced the Guest of Honour, Shanti Pereira, a national sprinter whose sporting achievements, discipline and dedication continue to inspire young people to pursue excellence and resilience.

Overseas School Exchange Programme (OSEP) Sharing by Mr James Koh

This was followed by a sharing on the Overseas School Exchange Programme (OSEP) by Mr James Koh, HOD of School Partnership and Outreach. He introduced the four overseas destinations that students will be embarking on this year—Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and China (Beijing). The programme promises to be an exciting and enriching journey, offering students valuable exposure to different cultures, education systems and global perspectives.

The assembly concluded with an engaging AI talk by Ms Zhou Wensi, Senior Teacher of History, who explored the role of Artificial Intelligence in today’s interconnected world. She emphasised the importance of using AI responsibly and ethically, particularly in learning contexts. The session was further enriched by interviews with teachers and students, who shared their perspectives on how AI can support learning while underscoring the importance of critical thinking and discernment.

Overall, the assembly offered students meaningful insights into upcoming events and future-ready learning, encouraging them to stay engaged, broaden their perspectives and use technology responsibly.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

On 16 February 2026, Peicai Secondary School celebrated Chinese New Year with a vibrant morning of level-differentiated activities that brought festive cheer across the campus.

Meanwhile, Secondary 3 to 5 students took part in lantern-making, carefully crafting colourful lanterns that symbolise reunion, hope, and new beginnings. Students participated enthusiastically in all the activities, filling the classrooms with energy, laughter, and the joyful spirit of the season.

After the morning sessions, the entire school proceeded to the hall for the Chinese New Year celebration concert. The atmosphere was lively and festive as students and staff gathered as one community. The programme featured a series of engaging performances and celebratory segments that highlighted the rich cultural traditions of the festival. The celebration not only showcased students’ talents but also strengthened school spirit and unity as everyone welcomed the new year together.

Through these meaningful experiences, our students deepened their appreciation of cultural traditions while embracing togetherness and joy. We wish all members of our school community a prosperous and successful year ahead.

Learning Strategies Shared by Peicai Alumna

Peicai Secondary School was delighted to host an alumna sharing session on campus, featuring our alumna Shankar Kerthana, who graduated in 2023. She shared practical study tips, insights on maintaining a positive mindset, and reflections from her transition to Raffles JC.

Kerthana shared how she adapted to the more independent learning environment at Raffles JC, balancing rigorous academic demands with co-curricular activities. She spoke about strategies for managing time effectively, staying motivated under pressure, and seeking support from peers and teachers when needed.

During the talk, Kerthana shared effective study methods tailored to different subjects. She emphasised the importance of active recall and consistent practice for content-heavy subjects, while highlighting structured revision, time management, and reflection for application-based disciplines. Her tips were grounded in real experiences, offering students clear and actionable strategies they could adopt immediately.

Beyond academics, Kerthana spoke about cultivating a positive and resilient mindset. She encouraged students to view challenges as opportunities for growth, to remain disciplined during demanding periods, and to believe in steady progress rather than quick results. Her message resonated strongly with the audience, reminding them that perseverance and self-belief are just as vital as technique.

The session concluded with Kerthana expressing her sincere gratitude to the teachers who guided and supported her throughout her years at Peicai. Her appreciation underscored the lasting impact of dedicated educators and the strong bonds within the Peicai community.

Total Defence Day 2026

Peicai commemorated Total Defence Day 2026 on 9 February through engaging and interactive activities that helped students understand their role in safeguarding Singapore’s security in an increasingly digital world.

During the morning flag-raising ceremony, student presenters highlighted how modern threats have evolved to include cyber-attacks, system disruptions, and power outages. They reminded the student body of the National Education message: that we must ourselves defend Singapore, as our security and well-being cannot be left to others but depend on the choices and actions of each of us.

Singapore’s security rely on all of us, and everyone has a role to play in defending the nation through responsible choices and actions.

Total Defence Day also marks a historical moment over 80 years ago, when Singapore fell to the Japanese military during World War II. We commemorate this event annually as a reminder of our collective responsibility to keep our nation safe and sovereign. Today, while threats may take new forms through technology and digital systems, the importance of vigilance and personal responsibility remains unchanged.

Learning in action: Students discover how they can contribute to Singapore’s Total Defence.

During CCE lessons, lower secondary students participated in stakeholder games and interactive flipchart discussions. By exploring how disruptions affect different members of society, they developed empathy and gained a deeper appreciation of how individual actions contribute to collective preparedness.

The highlight was the “Hot Seat” activity, where students shared response strategies while their peers asked thoughtful questions, strengthening both their critical thinking and communication skills.

These meaningful experiences deepened students’ understanding of Total Defence and strengthened their sense of responsibility, empowering them to contribute in building a resilient and prepared nation.

Peicai hosts Suanboonyopathum Lamphun School for a cultural immersion

On 6 February 2026, Peicai welcomed the Principal, teachers and students from Suanboonyopathum Lamphun School, Thailand, for a meaningful afternoon of cultural exchange and learning. The visit reflected the thoughtful planning and collaboration between both schools, as well as the initiative and enthusiasm shown by our OSEP Thailand 2025 team, who ensured that their Thai counterparts experienced the warmth, hospitality and vibrant spirit of Peicai.

An Afternoon of Connection, Learning, and Play

Upon arrival, our Thai guests were warmly welcomed by the OSEP Thailand 2025 team with a thoughtful welcome gift of local snacks and handmade letters. Each letter, carefully crafted by our students, expressed heartfelt greetings and excitement for the visit, setting a tone of genuine hospitality from the outset. The local snacks offered a taste of Singapore's culinary diversity, serving as both a gesture of friendship and a small introduction to the flavours that make our food culture unique. These personal touches reflected the care and effort our students invested in making their guests feel at home, embodying the spirit of graciousness and cultural pride that defines Peicai.

Over the course of three hours, our Thai guests were then immersed in various aspects of school life at Peicai. They observed lessons in our Math PinnaCle and Science PinnaCle programmes, gaining insight into how we nurture academic talent and foster critical thinking among our students. These observations provided a window into the rigour and creativity that define our approach to developing future-ready learners. It also stimulated conversations on both schools’ best academic practices, creating excitement for Peicai's upcoming visit to Lamphun in October 2026.

Beyond the classroom, students bonded through friendly sports exchanges in frisbee and captain's ball. Laughter and teamwork transcended language barriers as both sides played with and against each other. With such an electrifying atmosphere of cheers, both schools displayed the spirit of collaboration and adaptability central to Peicai's holistic development of our students.

Celebrating Culture Through Performances

A highlight of the visit was the performances by both schools. Suanboonyopathum kickstarted the exchange with a traditional Thai dance. Dressed in gold and adorned with flowers, the Thai students embodied Thailand's renowned passion for its traditional arts and culture.

The performances were met with enthusiastic applause and appreciation, serving as a bridge between cultures and a testament to the students' dedication and creativity.

For Peicaians, the chance to perform for their Thai guests was not only an expression of respect and hospitality but also an opportunity to deepen their own civic, global, and cross-cultural literacy.

Building Bridges, Looking Forward

Though the visit was short, it left a lasting impression on both students and teachers. The exchange reinforced key values such as empathy, open-mindedness, and adaptability qualities that are essential as our students navigate an increasingly interconnected and digitalised world. For our OSEP team, hosting their Thai counterparts was a valuable opportunity to develop communication, leadership, and cultural sensitivity, as they stepped up to guide, engage, and welcome our guests with confidence and care.

The collaboration between Peicai Secondary School and Suanboonyopathum Lamphun School is a reminder that meaningful connections can be forged even in the briefest encounters. Through exchanges like these, our students are not only learning about the world—they are learning to thrive in it, equipped with the skills, dispositions, and global perspectives that will serve them well in the years to come.

Peicai continues to look forward to future opportunities to deepen this partnership with Suanboonyopathum Lamphun School, and to continue building bridges of friendship across borders.

Peicai’s Parent Engagement Session

The school held the Parent Engagement Sessions (PES) on 17 and 24 January 2026, with face-to-face sessions for the Secondary 1, Secondary 2 and Secondary 4 cohorts, and an online session for the Secondary 3 cohort. The purpose of the sessions is to strengthen home–school partnership and support informed academic and post-secondary decision-making.

At the start of PES, parents and students were welcomed by Student Councillors and form teachers at the registration area before proceeding to the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH). The sessions opened with a welcome address by the Principal, Mr Michael, who shared the school’s vision and encouraged parents to work closely with the school in supporting their children’s learning.

For Secondary 2, the Head of Department (Science), Mr Edwin Kwek, provided an overview of the available subject combinations, outlining the structure of the upper secondary curriculum and key considerations such as students’ strengths, interests and future aspirations. This helped parents and students better understand how subject choices could support their learning.

For Secondary 4, the Education and Career Guidance (ECG) counsellor, Ms Tan Yi Ling, shared insights on post-secondary education pathways, including ITE, Polytechnic and Junior College options. She also highlighted key decision points, entry requirements, and the importance of aligning students’ interests and strengths with potential career pathways.

Following the briefings at the MPH, parents and students returned to their classrooms for class-based interactions with form teachers, covering administrative matters and fostering stronger parent–teacher rapport.

The Sec One Orientation Programme 2026 warmly welcomed our newest students into the school community through a vibrant and engaging series of activities designed to build friendships, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.

The programme kicked off with Welcome Day, where students arrived at school and were ushered by the Orientation Group Leaders to the MPH. Through lively icebreakers, the Sec One students quickly bonded with their classmates and orientation group leaders, setting the tone for an exciting and meaningful orientation experience.

Students had the opportunity to express their creativity during the Class Identity Flag Design activity, where teamwork and imagination came together to reflect each class’s unique spirit. This was followed by a variety of rotational games that encouraged collaboration, communication, and sportsmanship in a fun and supportive environment.

A key highlight of the programme was the Outdoor Interdisciplinary Amazing Race, where students navigated challenges that tested their problem-solving skills, resilience, and teamwork while applying knowledge from different disciplines. Through the Rotational Games, the students learnt more about the 5 Leadership Practice (Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Enable Others to Act, Challenge the Process and Encourage the Heart). The energy continued with dynamic Mass Games, spirited cheers, and an electrifying Mass Dance, bringing the entire cohort together in celebration and unity.
